Sergey Antonov
Gold Medalist Winner of the 2007 International Tchaikovsky Cello Competition Sergey Antonov has won numerous awards and competitions and is known for his expressive playing and rich, warm tone. Hailed as “a brilliant cellist” by the legendary Mstislav Rostropovich, he performs throughout Europe, Japan, and the US, and even performed a work specifically commissioned for him to perform with the Moscow Philharmonic.
“…and it’s almost impossible to say too many good things about…Antonov (who to these ears seems destined for cello superstardom).…a performance with soaring phrases and a tone to die for.” Journal Arts
“His suave, burnished, ardent tone served the Glazunov melody elegantly, with a free sense of phrasing that was neither too mechanical nor bogged down…” The Washington Post
