David Maxwell, Blues

Details:

With a career spanning over four decades, veteran blues pianist David Maxwell has played with the greats, earning a reputation for his low-down, funky improv, and his unmatched ability to reach the heart of post-war Chicago blues. He has recorded with and shared the stage with legends like Freddie King, Bonnie Raitt, Otis Rush, Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Lowell Fulsum, and Junior Wells. With over 50 recording sessions under his belt—including James Cotton’s Grammy winning “Deep In The Blues”— Maxwell’s albums continue to garner critical acclaim and win award after award, including 2011 Blues Music Awards Acoustic Album of the Year Award for "Conversations in Blue."

"I don't think anybody could be tighter playing the blues on the piano than David Maxwell. He plays the blues like it should be played. He plays the low-down, dirty, funky blues. He's got it all together."
- John Lee Hooker

"Dave has always been one of the most amazing piano players I've ever heard. Maximum Blues Piano showcases all of his strengths and is a great ride."
- Bonnie Raitt

"David Maxwell plays with fire and soul. He keeps the spirit of Otis Spann alive."
– James Cotton
