As it counts down to the June 2010 opening of its new home, the Shalin Liu Performance Center on Main Street, Rockport Music is pleased to offer tours of the building site starting two hours prior to each concert in Rockport Music’s 2009-2010 Series.

Led by Cambridge-based architect Alan Joslin and other key representatives, these behind-the-scenes events give our audiences the opportunity to experience three important stages in the construction of this oceanfront concert hall. Out of safety concerns, hard hats must be worn and will be provided. All attendees are also required to wear close-toed shoes.

Sunday, November 1, 3 p.m.
(Concert at 5 p.m. featuring the Jupiter String Quartet – Rockport Art Association)
Observe the completion of the wood framing with open views of the ocean.

Saturday, December 5, 5 p.m.
(Holiday Concert at 8:00 p.m. featuring the Triton Brass Quintet – First Congregational Church)
Celebrate the timber framing of the roof and other key elements.

Saturday, March 13, 6 p.m.
(Concert at 8 p.m. featuring Rachael Price, jazz vocalist – Rockport Art Association)
Experience a fully enclosed building, a finished slate roof, and functioning elevator.

In the spring, renowned acoustician R. Lawrence Kirkegaard begins acoustical testing, a process known as “tuning the hall” that lets the design team listen to and adjust the concert hall acoustics while musicians are performing.

On Rockport’s Motif #1 day, Rockport Music is pleased to invite the public to three FREE community concerts, each one hour. These family-friendly programs feature a variety of music, sure to please and entertain.

Opening Night – June 10, 8 p.m.
29th Season of the Rockport Chamber Music Festival

A grand opening calls for a grand celebration. This evening happens only once; there is no encore. The concert program will feature the world premiere of Scott Wheeler’s “Granite Coast” for Piano Trio, commissioned by Rockport Music for the opening of the Shalin Liu Performance Center.

Plans are also underway for several festival events at the new performance center, including a gala benefit evening featuring a special guest. Additional details coming soon.
